Can't say enough wonderful things about Nook products -- we own the change pad and mattress as well. There is no better company for non-toxic foam based baby products. And this is so fun and poppy, we just love it. Think about it... your baby basically spends the majority of their day with their face pressed against this thing. It should be non-toxic, right? The mainstream options out there are all bathed in fire retardants. Not good.As far as functionality, when the mat gets spit up on or generally dirty -- I just get a wet rag with mild soap and wipe it down. The tag says you can machine wash it, but I imagine it would have to go into a commercial size washer. It wouldn't fit in our standard front loader. The cover does not zip off (I kind of wish it did.. but so far, we've been happy)EDIT TO ADD: I just tried to stuff this in my washer, and it came out great! Gentle cycle, gentle non toxic laundry soda. Lowest dryer setting. VERY pleased!Packaging appeared to be previously opened. Item wasn't damaged, but dirty. The orange pad was black from dust or dirt exposure in the opening on the front of the nook package. I feel that this is a great item from nook, but the Lillypad I received was dirty and dingy smelling. I washed it thinking it may have just been on the shelf for too long, now it appears dingy and grey and is pilling. This is not the bright orange playmat that I imagined. Disappointed in my purchase at this time.I have contacted customer service with nook and they are being very helpful with the situation.the first wash and the mat pilled up and the color faded. i washed on cold, with light baby safe detergent and and dried on low.This playmat is super soft. Sometimes my daughter can't hold up herself very well when doing tummy time and drop her head to the mat...I don't have to worry no more. I like it any liquid would just bead up and I could wipe it up easily.Plus it doesn't have the letters or numbers like other foam playmats....but please note that this mat is on the small side. My daughter can roll 2 times only from end to end. I wish they had a bigger size.Just received the playmate and it is filthy!!! Can't give this as a gift. Glad I shipped it to me. Now I have to return and find something else. How can you send filthy items, especially for children? It is like they dragged it on a dirty floor and dropped it in a carboard box to ship it. AWFUL, I don't think the photo shows how filthy it is.This is a great, quality playmat for your little one. My daughter is 9 months old and not yet crawling (though she drags herself around using her upper body). This playmat stays in place (unlike a blanket at this point) while she moves around and offers lots of padding when she topples over from a sitting position. The easy to use closures and handles make it a great item to take with you on playdates!The mat was fantasy until suddenly the cover started to unravel. Now it is unsafe for the baby to play. The company replied to my email and told me they would not be helping me because they only warranty the product for 180 days. I would not recommend this product.This product injured my son. After about a month of use little plastic chards started coming out of the lining around the edges. Not only did they scratch him, but they are also a choking hazard. Amazon let me do a special return outside of the return window because of the nature of the issue.
